William Victor Binger III, 82 of Cambridge, MN, passed away on November 25, 2024, at Hennepin County Medical Center. Born on May 4, 1942, in Isanti Township, MN, to
William Frederick Binger Jr. and Thelma Victoria Becklin.
Bill grew up in Crown, MN, where he attended a country school before graduating from Cambridge High School in 1960. His dedication to his country shone through early on as he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and later served in the USMC Reserves. His bravery during his time in Vietnam was recognized with the awarding of a Purple Heart. Continuing his life of service, Bill also served in the Army and National Guard before retiring after 27 years of dedicated military service.
Bill sought to further his education by attending the University of Minnesota for two years. His work ethic and community involvement were evident in his post-military life. Bill was a proud member of the Cambridge American Legion Post #290 and the Isanti VFW Post #2735. He served as a past Commander of the Legion and VFW and was an active member of the Honor Guard with the VFW. His commitment to veterans' organizations extended to his membership in the Cooties VFW and the 40/8 Legion Group.
Bill's professional life was as robust and varied as his service record. He was a member of the 49ers Union and had a lifelong career as a livestock and crop farmer. His love for the land was as deep as his love for his country.
In his personal life, Bill was first married to Barbara Ellingson on March 23, 1968, in South Dakota, and together they made their home in Cambridge before their divorce on August 25, 1978. He later found love again and married Patricia Kelley on November 28, 2003.
Bill's interests were as heartfelt as his service to others. He was an enthusiastic supporter of his children and grandchildren, attending countless sporting events and milestones. A true Green Bay Packers fan, he enjoyed hanging out with his buddies, and farming with his children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jeffrey Binger.
Bill is survived by his wife Patty Binger; his children Brian (Amanda) Binger, Skeeter (Jesse) Guthrie, Billy Binger (Kellie Marshall), Walter (Julie) Binger, Karl (Kathy) Binger, 28 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and stepchildren Ty Jae Kelley (Emily Smith), Tara Truex (Brandon Graves), and Traci (Logan) VanDyke.
Bill's story is not just one of what he did, but of who he was - a testament to the enduring spirit of a true American hero.
