Wayne Reed Calander, age 73, of Cambridge, MN went to his heavenly home on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
He was born April 11, 1951 in Princeton, Minnesota to C. Andre and Gertrude (Richman) Calander. Wayne grew up on the farm near Cambridge, graduated from Cambridge High School in 1969; then went on to attend the University of Minnesota - Crookston. He worked for one year as a paraprofessional teacher in Barnesville when he met the love of his life January 1972 at a roller skating rink in Moorhead, MN. On September 15, 1973 he was united in marriage to Darlene Ward at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND.
Wayne’s love of farming had already called him and he started his career as a 4th generation farmer in 1972. His strong work ethic was supplemented by his understanding of how to repair equipment and build improvements that allowed him to expand his farming operation.
He was a devoted husband and father to two children, and his family was always his top priority. Big vacations were few but there were many enjoyable quick journeys and long weekends were spent along the North Shore of Lake Superior. There were also many regular trips back to Fargo to spend time with Darlene’s family, and he greatly enjoyed looking at crops and any farming activity that might have been underway while traveling.
Wayne lived in Cambridge all his life, served on the Soil & Water Conservation District and also served on the Farm Service Agency board to ensure proper administration of those programs. He cared about the community, desired to see it grow and prosper and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Darlene; sons, Matthew of Roseville, Jeffrey (Kristin) of Blaine; grandson, Micah; sisters, Cheryl Hubacher of Cambridge, Joan (Myron) Nelson of Lakeland, MN; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Wayne left a legacy of love, wisdom and hard work to his grateful family. We are truly blessed and we will miss him greatly.
Memorials are preferred.
