Vernon Orlan Hanson was born on September 15, 1938 to Marie Marietta and Herman Hanson in Inver Grove Heights, MN. He moved to Albert Lea with his parents shortly after his birth and then later moved to a farm west of Cambridge in 1950. At the age of 17 he joined the US Air Force and proudly served his country.
He was the 10th of 12 children, youngest boy, so after completing his Air Force duty, he returned home to the farm to care for his mother.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Potthier on September 5, 1970. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
He welcomed 3 children to his home, James (Kimberly) Hanson, Joel Hanson and Onalee Hanson. He was blessed with 5 grandchildren; Jace, Keegan, Kyle, Ethan and Jenna Hanson.
Vernon drove Semi-trucks for Maislin & Gateway Transportation until deregulation forced him to retire. Later he worked for the Scotsman paper and John Deere Delivery while driving school bus for the Cambridge School District for 35 years..
He is also survived by his siblings Martin “Skip” (Ena) Hanson, Nancy Sager (Vicki Jacobson) and Norma Anderson and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Rita Hanson, Merle Hanson, Dana Hanson, Marvin Hanson, Lois Triplett, Lyle Hanson, Lester “Gene” Hanson and Iris Raths.
Friends and family may gather at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home from 4 -8 PM Tuesday March 17, 2020 to express their condolences. Military Honors will take place outside the funeral home at 8PM.
