Verna Mae Leaf, 90, went to her heavenly home on May 18, 2025, with family surrounding her at Cambridge Medical Center. She was born February 12, 1935, at home in Maple Ridge Township to Jasper and Hulda Pearson. When her parents were no longer able to take care of her because of medical circumstances, she went to live with Gunnar and Elizabeth Woodland, who became her foster parents. She felt so blessed and they meant the world to her.
Verna attended 1st-8th grades at Common (known as Stake School) in Cambridge. She attended Cambridge High School and graduated in 1953. Following graduation, she was employed by Honeywell, as a secretary in the Aeronautical Engineers Department. She was privileged to work on classified space projects for the U.S Government.
She was united in marriage to Donald Leaf on October 27, 1956, at Cambridge Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three children: Mark, Julie, and Sharalyn.
Verna was a stay-at-home mom until 1971 when she went to work at the Isanti County Courthouse for 27 years, eventually becoming a Deputy Auditor. She retired in 1998. She was a lifelong member of Cambridge Lutheran Church and an active member of Deborah Circle. She was also an active member of the Border Belles Homemakers Group, the Braham VFW Auxiliary and the Isanti Lioness.
Verna was an outgoing person. She enjoyed solving crosswords, playing dominos and board games. Game Show Network was one of her favorite TV programs. She enjoyed her winter home in Hot Springs, Arkansas with Donald. They made several trips to California, Arizona, Florida and Northern Minnesota, but their trip to Norway and Sweden was a trip of a lifetime.
Verna is survived by her son Mark (Rhonda) Leaf, Daughters Julie Grell, Sharalyn (Sharry) Schusted & significant other Jeff Haugrud and son-in-law Dave Schusted, brother Richard (Dick) Woodland and brother-in-law Tom Stahnke, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Donald, parents Jasper and Hulda Pearson and foster parents Gunnar and Elizabeth Woodland as well as brother Oliver (Pat) Pearson, sister Lois Stahnke and son-in-law Dean Grell.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Cambridge Allina Medical Center staff (especially to her devoted doctor, Dr. Kampa).
MEMORIAL SERVICE 11AM, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Cambridge Lutheran Church. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment in the church cemetery.
