Steven M. Grell

Steve M. Grell age 68 of Cambridge, passed away suddenly after a snowmobile ride and visiting with family on January 12, 2020.

Steve was born on August 1, 1951 to Duane and Esther Grell in St. Paul MN.   He lived for a short time in the Midway area of St. Paul, before moving to Braham to live on a farm.  This is where he developed his mechanical aptitude.  Steve attended school in Grasston and Braham, leaving school early to travel extensively throughout the United States, developing his passion for motorcycles. 

He returned to the Cambridge area in 1981.  He started working for Rapid Sport Center in Coon Rapids and then moved on to Spring Lake Plastics in Cambridge and Larson Cycle of Cambridge.

In 1983, Steve married Robin O’Brien.  They started S & R Cycle Repair, specializing in motorcycles and ATV’s

He loved Flat-Track racing at George Helm Speedway in Pease, MN and at the Cambridge and surrounding area tracks. After retiring from Flat – Track racing, he sponsored his children in their racing endeavors.  But that didn’t last long, He needed to race again.  He raced in the Sr and Super Sr Hare Scramble Division.

When he wasn’t racing, he enjoyed his time at the cabin in Mora on Knife Lake area.  While there, he cut lots of wood, rode his dirt-bike and wheeler and tinkered on his many projects.

He loved his old Ford Cars and the occasional boat rides on Rush Lake and in the fall of the year, he loved to hunt pheasants.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 36 years; Robin.  Their children Angela Grell ( Wes Cemenski), Daniel (Tara) Grell.

Grandfather to their children; Triston and Rayden Cememski, Kurt and Jolean Grell.

Steve is also survived by his own children; Mike (Kari) Grell, Marc (Cheryl) Grell, John Pearson (Crystal Thompson- Carlino). Grandfather to their children; Brittney (Warren) Smith, Mike (Elyssa) Grell, Heather Grell, Marc (Hanna) Grell and Ashley Pearson.

Great-Grandfather of three.

Also survived by his brothers; Gary Grell, David (Pam) Grell and Gerald Grell; sisters Susan (Paul) Hupfer and Gail (Brian) Kling and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Judith Grell, nephew Jason Grell
