Sandra Sundvall Obituary

Sandra Kay Sundvall, affectionately known as Sandy, passed away unexpectedly due to an accident on September 6, 2024, at the age of 59, in Backus, Minnesota. Born on February 25, 1965, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sandy grew into a loving, kind, and creative soul who left an indelible mark on the hearts of nearly everyone she encountered.

Known for her warmth and generosity, Sandy was a source of calm and light to those who knew her. She graduated from Braham High School in 1983 and went on to touch many lives through her work as a paraprofessional in the Pequot Lakes and Pine River-Backus school districts, and in her role working with disabled adults at the Pine River Area Developmental Achievement Center. Her passion for helping others extended beyond her professional life as she dedicated time to volunteering at the local animal shelter in Backus, where she combined her love for animals with her selfless spirit.

Sandy's passion was evident in her many interests. She was an avid quilter, often creating beautiful pieces that will serve as cherished heirlooms for generations to come. An insatiable reader, she could often be found with a book in hand, immersing herself in others’ lives and stories. Her plants and flowers were a testament to her patience and care, blooming with life and color that mirrored her own vibrant personality. Sandy also cherished the simple pleasures of life, like spending late nights around the fire pit with loved ones, perfecting her most recent hobby of soap making, embarking on countless projects around the house with her husband Clayton, and savoring the sweetness of her favorite chocolate indulgences.

Traveling was another of Sandy's passions, as she loved exploring new destinations and making memories with her family. Her adventurous spirit and infectious laughter would light up any room, and her presence made every journey unforgettable.

She was preceded in death by her father Lyle in August 2023, mother Lois in November 2023, brother David Doebbeling, father-in-law Roger Sundvall and brother-in-law Bradley Sundvall.

Sandy is survived by her devoted husband, Clayton, and their sons, Coty Sundvall (Chelsea White) of Big Lake and Jared Sundvall of St. Louis Park, MN. Her legacy continues through her siblings, Jerry Doebbeling of St. Louis Park, Kenny (Jeanne) Doebbeling of Le Sueur, Julie Torell of St. Louis Park, and sister-in-law, Michele Doebbeling of Oak Grove. She also leaves behind her mother-in-law, Janet Sundvall of Cambridge, and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Melissa Sundvall of Braham, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends who will miss her dearly.

Sandy's departure from this world was too soon, but her spirit and the love she shared will continue to resonate with all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her laughter, her creativity, and her steadfast kindness are the gifts she has left behind, etched forever in the memories of her family and friends.

As we say goodbye to Sandra Kay Sundvall, we celebrate the extraordinary life she led and the countless ways in which she enriched our lives. Her story does not end here, as she lives on in the hearts of those she loved and in the beauty of the world she helped to create and nurture. Sandy's life was a quilt made with love, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to her family, and she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
