Ruth Ann (Quam) Martin of Cambridge, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly but peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, July 19th, 2024 after a beautifully lived life at the age of 75. She was a beacon of light, comfort, and warmth to everyone who knew her and she will be deeply missed.
Ruth was born on October 20th, 1948 to Edward and Winifred Quam in Atwater, Minnesota. She was the oldest and only daughter of 6 children. She graduated from New London-Spicer High School in 1966 and graduated from Willmar Area Vocational Technical Institute in 1969 where she studied practical nursing.
Ruth’s true passion during her life, apart from her family, was caring for others (and she realized this) through a nursing career of 42 years. Ruth tended to patients at Willmar State Hospital and later at Cambridge Medical Center.
Ruth spent 47 years together & married to her lifelong love and best friend, Ted Martin. They raised their children together, who were and still are the center of their lives
Ruth lived an incredibly fulfilling life that included many hobbies beyond raising her children and grandchildren, who she adored, nurtured, and cared for on a daily basis. She loved attending church, and was an active member of her Bible study group.
Ruth was full of energy, life, and positivity. She was an avid baker, especially during the holidays, and her caramel rolls were infamous. She loved to garden and enjoy nature walks with Ted. She loved to fill her family’s bellies with as much food as she could cook. Puffy, her beloved kitten, was her pride and joy once her children had moved out of the house.
She was a seamstress, an attentive bird watcher, an accurate weather woman, and a passionate MSNBC fan. She also enjoyed going shopping and dancing or singing along to her favorite tunes in the car. Last but not least, Ruth’s laugh and sense of humor were one of her most enjoyed and memorable qualities.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband Ted Martin, her treasured children Adam (Michelle) Martin, Kelly (Mike) Wicklund, step-children Nikki (Jason) Perala, Ben (Erica Martin, her precious grandchildren Bella, Mya, Grant, Brody, Will, Teddy, and her brothers Steve, Tom (Jenny), and Phil (Lisa) Quam.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Winifred Quam, her son Travis and step-son Chris, her brothers Bob and Alan Quam, and her sister-in-law Kathy Quam.
Ruth was greatly loved by so many and will be deeply missed.
