Ruth Mae (Johnson) Benton

Ruth Mae Benton, of Superior, WI and Finlayson, MN was born on October 15, 1935 and died on December 3, 2021 at Rosewood Senior Living in Cambridge, MN at the age of 86. She was surrounded by family and loved ones.

She grew up in Superior, WI, then married Joseph Benton. She traveled with her husband and 3 children as a military family to various parts of the United States. After the military, she settled in Soderville, MN with her husband and 3 children. After the birth of the 4th child, they moved to a farm in Finlayson, MN. After the farm, she moved into town in Finlayson, where she remained until 2017, at which time she moved into Rosewood Senior Living in Cambridge, MN.

During her time in MN, the family built a cabin in Cambridge, MN, which was enjoyed by family and friends. At a later time, family and friends also enjoyed lake property in Finlayson, MN. Family and friends participated in water sports and activities not only in the summer, but the winter as well.

For work, she was owner/operator of a screen-printing business, in which she did much of her own artwork. She also was a Supervisor in the employee cafeteria, a Supervisor in the buffet, and then was a blackjack dealer for many years at Grand Casino in Hinckley, MN. She was also an expert fish cleaner/packager, an egg gatherer, a woodworker, a bus driver, to name a few. She had many talents and was willing to learn many new things on a regular basis.

She loved being outdoors in the sunshine, talking with people and watching children play outside.

A friend and supporter to many, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, and a great, great grandmother will be forever in our hearts, and will be greatly missed.

Preceded in death by Mother Opal Embree, father, Brother Richard “Dick” Johnson, Twin Brother Roland “Chuck” Johnson, Sister Kathleen Embree, Infant Brother Embree.

Survived by Daughter Linda (Daniel “Danny”) Stromgren, Son Joseph (Marta) Benton, Son Jay (Tracey) Benton, Daughter Virginia “Ginny” Benton (Dave Jackson), Sister Gail (Warren Soule). 

Grandmother of: Venessa “Tali” Stromgren (Jason Mestamacher), Daniel “Tucker” Stromgren, Tyler Stromgren, Timothy “TJ” (Kelli) Stromgren, Shane Benton, Jaycie (Kortney) Jendro, and Joshua (Brittany) Benton.

Great-grandmother to: Alexander, Sebastien, Cosentine, Labrandus, Tucker, Leah, Chase, Daniel, Lexi, Trevor, Caleb, Makayla, Aubrielle, Teigan, Beau, Jacob, Alexandra, Connor, Stella and Great-Great-Grandson Kingston.

Memorial service 12 Noon Saturday December 11, 2021 at Carlson – Lillemoen Funeral Home 311 S. Ashland St. Cambridge, MN

Friends may gather 1 hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Private interment
