Raymond C. Trebus, Sr., age 77, of Isanti, MN, a proud Vietnam veteran of the US Army, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 6, 2024 from the effects of Agent Orange exposure while serving his country.
Ray was born on August 23, 1946 to Clarence and Delores Trebus in River Falls, WI.
His family moved to the Twin Cities and settled in Fridley. Ray graduated from Spring Lake Park in 1964. Ray married the love of his life, Diane Marie Morgan, on June 29, 1966. Ray volunteered to go into the US Army, knowing that he would be sent to Vietnam. He served honorably in the Army Signal Corps achieving the rank of Sergeant. Upon returning from Vietnam, Ray was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia until his discharge. Shortly after the birth of his daughter in Georgia, they moved back to Minnesota in October 1968. They resided in NE Minneapolis, where they met their life-long friends Larry & Chris Dahlager. Ray and Diane moved to the Blaine area to raise their growing family. There they met Cindy Petroff, who became a life-long friend.
Later they moved back to Fridley, Ray became very active in the VFW. He joined the Sgt. John Rice VFW in Blaine, Palmer Lake VFW in Brooklyn Park, Fridley VFW, Porter Texas VFW, Coon Rapids VFW and finally the Rum River VFW of Isanti, becoming Post Commander at many times. He was selected as the Minnesota State VFW Commander in 2011 to 2012. He was a relentless advocate for veterans; helping them to obtain their rightful benefits. Ray was instrumental in helping families communicate with soldiers’ over-seas with Operation Up-Link.
Ray and Diane co-chaired the Special Olympics soft-ball tournament in MN. They also were Luther League Youth group leaders at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, organizing retreats, skiing, snow-tubing and church lock-ins.
Ray was a member of Teamsters Local 544, working at Murphy Warehouse Company for 30 years.
Ray saved some time to go camping with his family and tubing down the Apple River. He was an avid Twins and Vikings fan.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Diane, parents Clarence and Delores Trebus; brother Ronald Trebus, sister Carol Kingsbury and infant granddaughter Sabrina Trebus.
He is survived by his four children; Janet Trebus (Jack Kunza), Jean Trebus, Ray Jr (Melissa) Trebus, and Ryan Trebus (Kari Ingalls -Trebus); grandchildren; Ben Hartnell, Emily (Sam) Sheridan, Patrick Trebus, Kennedy Trebus, Will (Sofia) Trebus, Alicia Trebus (fiancée Trevin Wieling) and Sarah Trebus; great-grandchildren Ryan, Aria, Grayson, Lucy, Margo, Raymond, Bellamy and Ivy; brothers Dennis (Barb) Trebus, Kevin Trebus and sister Judy Lindell; best friends Larry & Chris Dahlager and Cindy Petroff and many other friends and relatives.
Funeral Service 11 AM Saturday January 13 at Faith Lutheran Church 109 2nd Ave. N. Isanti, MN
Visitation 4-8 PM Friday January 12 at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home 311 S. Ashland St. Cambridge, MN and 1 hour prior to service at the church on Saturday.
Full Military Honors will be held at the church after the service.
