Paul Gerald Peterson, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024, at the age of 97 (3 days before he turned 98) in North Branch, Minnesota.
Born on August 19, 1926, in Stanchfield, Minnesota, Paul was a man whose life was defined by his love for family, his service to his country, his numerous contributions to his community, and his faith in God. He was a member of North Isanti Baptist Church, where he served in many different positions over the years. Paul grew up in a bustling household of seven, the second to the youngest son of C. David and Hannah Peterson.
He attended high school in Cambridge, Minnesota and graduated in 1944. Upon graduation he worked at Cambridge Launderers and Cleaners for a time driving a delivery truck. He then worked for a gas company moving from St. Paul to Milwaukee to Philadelphia. After bravely serving in the Army from 1951 to 1953, including an 18-month deployment to Korea, Paul returned to his roots in Isanti where he dedicated himself to farming.
He met and married his loving wife, Lois A. Davis on September 8, 1956. God blessed them with three children, Wayne (Colleen) Peterson, Richard (Renee) Peterson, and Kathy (Lance) Olson. Paul's legacy continues to thrive through his grandchildren—Chris, Landon, Calista, Megan, Candice, Chelsea, Kyle, Jessica, Logan, and Alex—and his 14 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Those who knew Paul understood his love for leisure activities. He was an avid bowler, golfer, pool player, and card player. He loved to read and often could be found with a book in hand and a dog settled in on his lap. For two months each year, Paul and Lois enjoyed the warm Florida sunshine, making memories with his brothers, sisters, their spouses and friends.
The words that best describe Paul are loving, kind, and generous. He was a man who gave of himself freely, never expecting anything in return. His gentle nature and generous spirit were felt by everyone who had the pleasure of crossing his path. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Harriet (Gordon) Danielson, Ruthie (Jim) Walburg, Donald (Emmy and Virginia) Peterson, Stanley (Tootie) Peterson, Norman (Madeline) Peterson and sisters-in-law Dee Peterson and Gayle Milz. He is survived by his brother Jim Peterson.
We want to say a special thank you to Ecumen Assisted Living and Ecumen Hospice for taking such good care of Paul.
