Paul Frederick Lund, age 86, of North Branch, MN peacefully passed away October 2, 2024 at Ecumen North Branch Assisted Living, surrounded by his family.
Paul was born December 17, 1937, at the family farm in Fish Lake Township, MN to Sterling and Dora (Goebel) Lund. He went to Sunday School in Dale, attended grade school at the District 30 one room school house, and graduated from North Branch High School in 1955. After high school, Paul worked as a farmer and a ranch hand. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1956, earning the Expert Rifleman award as well as the rank of Corporal within 16 Months. He was also a route driver, a carpenter and a lead high school custodian. He was also an avid beekeeper (before and after his stroke), had an interest in antique John Deere tractors, and was a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent at Spring Lake Lutheran. Along the way, he met and married Audrey (Jackie) Johnson in at Spring Lake on October 13, 1962, and had two sons, Lance and Lorne, and one daughter, Lynette.
Those who have known Paul in the past 42 years may think of him only as the survivor of a stroke, which he was, but his determination (stubbornness) from his German and Swedish heritage, and toughness from his training in the Marine Corp enabled him to learn how to walk again, talk again, and feed and care for himself again. He continued to maintain his property and mowed grass at home and at the Dalstorp Cemetery and cleaned the snow out of the driveway. He was one of the founding members of the Adults with Disabilities support group in North Branch. He was able to see all three of his children graduate from high school and college, be there for the weddings of both of his sons, support his daughter in her battles with cancer, be there for the birth, confirmation, and high school graduation of his four grandsons, as well as the birth of his two great-grandchildren.
Paul is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Jackie, his two sons, Lance (Chia Lee) and Lorne (Jayne) and his daughter Lynette, grandchildren; Kai, Cy (Stephanie Cerda), Corbin and Trenton Lund, Megan Simmons, and his great-granddaughter Emmarie, and great-grandson Jameson. Also survived by his sister, Lois Eaves of Bay City, WI, several cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Sterling and Dora Lund, brother-in-law Donald Eaves, sister and brother-in-law Florence and John (Spike) Wilcox, and brother and sister-in-law James and Gertie Lund, and one niece, Laura Eaves.
The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the many health caregivers that Paul has had, especially the staff of St. Croix Hospice and Ecumen North Branch. We truly appreciate your compassion and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Spring Lake Lutheran Church or the North Branch Food Shelf.
Memorial Service 11AM. Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at Spring Lake Lutheran Church. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment in the church cemetery with Military Honors by North Branch American Legion.
