Norma Bowers Obituary

Norma Kjellman Bowers, 92, formerly of Marshall, died in hospice care on September
21, 2023. Norma was born on July 17, 1931 in Proctor, MN to Ivor Kjellman and Sigrid
Hokanson Kjellman. She graduated from Proctor High School in 1949 and worked at a
bank until her marriage to Russell Bowers in 1951. Norma and Russ moved several
times for his work on small town newspapers until they bought the Westbrook Sentinel
in 1959. They put out the Westbrook paper together until their move to Marshall in
1968. When her children were all in school, Norma took a job at BH Electronics and
worked there for many years. After her retirement, she worked part time in the County
Fair bakery. Following the death of her husband, Norma moved to Hill Street Place and
later to assisted living in Cambridge, MN.
Norma was an active member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church throughout her decades
in Marshall. She was a lifelong reader, especially of mystery novels, an avid walker and
a fan of cats. She enjoyed movies, doing various craft projects and taking the long way
‘round. She was a kind, non-judgmental person who, almost to the end, had energy to
burn.
Norma is survived by her children Joyce (Troy Trooien) of Minneapolis, Pat (Jeff
Petersen) of St. Francis, Don (Carrie) of Ramsey, Barb Johnson (Jay) of Coon Rapids
and grandchildren Trevor, Alex and Colin Bowers, Kyle and Justin Johnson and Sara
Johnson Branovsky. She was preceded in death by her husband Russ, her parents,
her brothers Freddie and Don and her sister Eleanor.
