Marian Dobe Obituary

Marian (Hawk, Fredlund) Dobe of Cambridge MN, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on March 18, 2024 at Walker Methodist LeVande.

Marian was born on May 12, 1930, in Harris, Iowa. She lived in or near Cambridge MN since 1936. She was a Cambridge High School graduate. Marian married Ronald Fredlund on June 21, 1952. They had no children so they borrowed many to enjoy, sewing for them and teaching them creative activities. They also had many dogs and cats.  Marian sold vegetable and eggs door-to-door as a child. She would load up her little wagon and she took it all around town selling her eggs and veggies. She worked at the old Hollywood Theater and waitressed whenever she could. Marian began making all of her clothes when she was 10 years old. She started sewing out of necessity but it soon became ‘her thing’. She worked at the Court House office, Deputy Clerk of court, Clerk of Probate, plus Isanti County Abstract Company. She also spent many hours making her clothing plus making outfits for choirs and theater.

In 1966, Marian started Flight School, attaining her Private Pilots License and Instrument Rating. March is Women’s History Month: Marian was the first Female Pilot in Isanti County. Marian flew all over America and to Panama and to Guatemala. She had two Cessna’s, one yellow color and the other beige, red and brown. Her call name became ‘Little Yellow Bird’ and she often had one of her dogs with her. On a weathered-in flight to Texas in 1977, she found herself stuck in Dodge City, Kansas, where she found an art teacher who started her painting career. She took art classes when and wherever she could and taught painting classes for years. Since 1992, she has taken classes to pursue writing, poetry, music and the theater.

In July of 1996, Marian started her happy new life with Marvin Dobe and lived on 40 acres near Princeton. They worked on everything together: Cooking, gardening, deer hunting (close to home and in Texas), prairie-dog hunting in South Dakota, shooting trap and rebuilding old stuff to make it new and useable. They taught ballroom dancing (yes, even the Tango!) and entertained at Senior homes and other venues.

Marvin passed away on June 8, 2012. Marian came to visit Wyanett Evangelical Free Church in 2018 and has been a member there ever since.

She was well known for her beautiful jackets with matching hats and her beautiful quilts for beds and wall hanging quilts. In October, 2019, Marian moved to a town home in Cambridge and lived there for several years. She then moved to Walker Methodist LeVande Senior Living. Marian was preceded in death by her former husband Ronald Fredlund, husband Marvin Dobe, her parents Edna and Harry Hawk and her brother, Harry Hawk.  She is survived by three nieces, three nephews, other relatives and friends.
