Lenora Marie Robertson, age 99, of Cambridge, Minnesota passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born on March 15, 1927, to Bertus and Lena Mellema, she was the ninth of ten children, living near Worthington Minnesota. This was the beginning of a life filled with love and service to those who knew her.
Lenora married Ervin Robertson on June 27, 1946 and they began their lives together, farming over 40 years and raising five children on their farm near Bigelow, Minnesota. Lenora was perfectly suited to be a partner to Ervin on the farm, where her strong work ethic was put to good use. Her skills in cooking wonderful meals, tending a huge garden, creatively sewing for the family and sharing in the farm work, both inside and outside of the house, made her a great helper in every sense of the word.
In December, 1948, a farm accident seriously injured Ervin. Many long years of surgeries and hospitalizations brought out her nature of having the heart of a caregiver. With 3 small children to care for and physical struggles related to his accident, Lenora lived out that passion. Later in life, she continued to pour herself into care for many family members and friends who needed her presence as they went through physical difficulties.
Hospitality came naturally to Lenora. Her table was rarely empty, welcoming new families from church every Sunday, neighbors, friends and often “drop ins” without any notice. Somehow, she was always prepared with something delicious from the oven. Warm conversation around the table brought her many friends over the years.
Lenora made music a cornerstone of family life. All five children were encouraged to grow in their musical abilities, sometimes with a stern hand. She loved to sing in church choir and for a time, in a women’s trio, which she expressed as one of her favorite things to do.
Lenora was also interested in learning new skills, involving herself in community classes and groups that encouraged creativity and personal growth. Family activities included 4-H clubs, travel, concert series, travelogues, and frequently hosting foreign students, all introducing her family to life beyond the farming community. Ervin and Lenora traveled extensively, being fascinated by history and other cultures.
All of Lenora’s service flowed from one source. Lenora’s relationship with Jesus was the center of her life, and her servant’s heart was a reflection of that deep abiding faith. Her tangible love, generosity and compassion was her way of serving Christ.
Lenora was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Robertson; daughters Leanna Kay Robertson and Susan Elaine Boyd, son Mark Alan Robertson.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Mellema; daughters, Nancy Thielen (Mick), Ellen Voigt (Timothy), Mary Mork (Allen), daughter in law, Kathy Robertson, son in law, Chris Boyd; twenty grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services 11AM, Friday, May 1, 2026 at First Baptist Church in Cambridge. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment in Worthington Memorial Gardens on May 28, 2026.
