Leigh Stephenson, 84, of Maplewood passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at her son’s home.
She was born July 28, 1936 in Lincoln County, MN to James and Tina (Barends) Offringa. Leigh grew up near Lake Benton where she attended country school through the 8th grade. She stayed at home to help care for her father and brother with the farm.
In 1953 she was united in marriage to Ronald Stephenson and they had two children Denise and Rodney. They lived for a time in St. Paul before settling in Maplewood and raising their two children. They were married for 17 years. Leigh went on to work at Maplewood Carpet City. She spent many years there and invested with the company. She purchased 51% of the business and changed the name to Leigh’s Carpet City and later became sole owner. In 1998 she closed the retail part of the store and operated as carpet distributor. After 37 years she retired and turned the business over to her son.
Leigh enjoyed custom painting yard sculptures and statues. She liked to travel and took a trip to Mexico with friends. Family was very important to Leigh and would do anything for them. She was always good to people and people only had good things to say about her.
