LaVerne (Norberg) Anderson

LaVerne Anderson, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at the age of 100 at the Episcopal Church Home in St. Paul.

She was born in August 1924 in a log home in Springvale Township, Minnesota to Alphonse and Rachel (Mattson) Norberg.

A woman of extraordinary strength, determination and dedication to family, first as the oldest of ten Norberg children and the matriarch of her siblings and later as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She was a strong leader throughout her life.  For eight years she attended country school as the only one in her grade.  After graduating from Cambridge High School, she took teacher’s training and taught country school grades 1-8 for seven years.

On June 17, 1950 she married Enock Anderson and they moved to South Dakota.  She was the first homemaker in the neighborhood to take a full-time job as a sewing instructor at the Singer Sewing Company.  In 1968 the family moved back to Minnesota and LaVerne worked in the tailor shop at the Cambridge State Hospital until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband Enock Anderson, sister Patricia Hallgren, brothers Francis, Harold, Robert and Thomas Norberg, son-in-law Craig Fohrenkamm.

LaVerne is survived by her daughter Elsie Fohrenkamm of St. Paul, son Paul Anderson of Stanchfield, three grandchildren Sara Fohrenkamm of St. Paul, Sonya (Kris) Evenson of North St. Paul, Robyn Anderson of Stanchfield, two great grandchildren Ellen and Annika Evenson, sisters Laura Pearson of Cambridge, Dorothy Leaf of Milaca, brothers David (Marian) Norberg of Cambridge, Jim Norberg of Cambridge, many other relatives and friends.

Memorials are preferred to the Mattson/Norberg Cabin at the Isanti County Historical Society.

Memorial Service Noon, Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home.  Visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment in Cambridge Lutheran Cemetery.
