Kenneth Walter Olson, age 87, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on July 23, 2025. Born on March 22, 1938, to Elizabeth and Walter Olson at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Kenny was raised in Cambridge, Minnesota. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1956, often sharing fond (and funny) stories about the mischief of his youth.
In 1961, Kenny co-founded Walter E. Olson and Sons Construction alongside his father. A man of tireless work ethic, Kenny often said, “I was born to work,” and his dedication proved it. Whether operating heavy machinery or hauling countless loads of dirt and gravel, he found joy and pride in his work. Over the years, he worked alongside his brother Dicky to build the company into a respected local business. He also served ten years with the Cambridge Fire Department.
Kenny had a passion for buying land, classic cars, and tractors, often restoring and reselling them. He loved the rumble of a Harley Davidson, the excitement of an auction, and the simple joy of a drive down memory lane—usually accompanied by a story or a good joke.
He married Diane Johnson on March 1, 1958. Together, they had two daughters, Kim and Rhonda, and made their home in Cambridge. The couple divorced in 1976. He later married Marge Sager in 1980; they were together until 2003.
In 1968, Kenny purchased a piece of lakeshore property on Skogman Lake that became known as “The Lake Lot.” It became a beloved gathering place for friends, family, and classmates to make special memories over the years. In his later years, he treasured traveling with his family and his dear friend Kathy, creating even more lasting memories.
Kenny is preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Walter Olson; stepmother, Violet Olson; ex-wife Diane Olson; daughter, Kim; sister, Joyce; brother-in-law, Pete; and special friend, Kathy Niemi.
He is survived by daughter, Rhonda (Mark) Leaf; son, Jeremy Olson; his brother, Richard (Karyn) Olson; ex-wife, Marge Olson; grandchildren Brittni Buller, Briana (Blake) Berg, and Blair (Andrew) Hendel, Jason and Jordan Olson and nine great-grandchildren. He will also be deeply missed by many cherished friends and extended family.
Memorial services Thursday July 31st at 11 AM at Cambridge Lutheran Church 621 Old North Main St. Cambridge. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Private interment.
