Kay Sharon Kast, 81, passed away at her home on March 8, 2025. Born in Minneapolis, MN, on February 6, 1944, to Gerald and Joyce (Larson) Moir, Kay lived a life marked by artistry, faith, and dedication to her loved ones and community.
A graduate of Hopkins High School in 1962, Kay further her artistic talents by earning a Bachelor's Degree in Art at Bethel University. Her journey as an educator began in the fall of 1966 at Cambridge High School, where she quickly became a cherished mentor and a favorite among students. It was here that she met her future husband, William Kast, thanks to a serendipitous note left on her blue Camaro. They married in 1968 and went on to build a life rich in love and creativity, complete with a daughter, Jessica Joy, and son, Jonathan Wesley.
Kay and Bill crafted their unique dome house on a serene property discovered during a canoeing adventure on the Rum River. As an educator, Kay was known for her open classroom, where students could find a safe haven before and after school. She was the founder of the Cambridge High School Dance Line and was beloved for inspiring her students to pursue their creativity with confidence. Kay continued her passion for teaching in the Princeton School District.
Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to open a boutique store with Helen Thomas in Cambridge. Upon retiring, Kay remained active in her community, serving on the Board of Directors at the Isanti County Historical Society and playing a pivotal role in organizing the Blue Jacket All School Reunion.
A longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Cambridge, Kay served her congregation in numerous capacities. Her spirituality was interwoven with her artistic pursuits, particularly her love for watercolor painting.
Kay has joined her beloved husband William (Bill) Kast, her brother Allan Moir, and her son-in-law Robert Taillefer in Heaven.
She is survived by her daughter Jessica Taillefer of Anoka, MN, her son Jon Kast and his wife Jill of Aubrey, TX, her four grandchildren, all of whom gave her great joy and happiness Rebekah and Piper Gregory and Chase and Moira Taillefer; sister-in-law Rebecca “Becky” Yaste Moir; niece Lee Anne Moir Clarke; nephews, David Allan Moir and James Brack Moir.
