Katherine "Katie" M. (Olson) Ekstedt

Katherine M. Olson Ekstedt, 79, of Cambridge, MN passed away on January 17, 2025 at the Cambridge Medical Center.  She was born August 27, 1945 in Princeton, MN to D. Reynold and Eleanor Olson. 

  Katie attended Karmel, Stark and Dowling country schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1963.  She moved to Minneapolis after graduating and lived and worked there much of her adult life with the Wells Fargo Equipment leasing office.  After taking early retirement, she enjoyed working as a bank teller in Taylors Falls and Almelund local banks.

 Katie met her husband Dennis Ekstedt at Bethlehem Baptist church, and they married July 30, 1977. Katie enjoyed traveling, especially on the back of Dennis’ motorcycle, quilting and many activities with all of her family and friends.  She also had multiple beloved pets.  We were all blessed by her loving care and generosity.

  She is survived by her son Quy (Kim) Nguyen, whom she and Dennis took into their family after the Vietnam war, granddaughters Anna and Emily Nguyen, daughter Megan Ekstedt, brother James (Judi) Olson, brothers-in-law Chuck (Rita), Phil (Ruth), Carl (Sabina) and Einar (Elaine) Ekstedt, 25 nieces and nephews,  60 great nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends.

 Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Ekstedt, parents D. Reynold and Eleanor Olson, mother-in-law Esther Ekstedt, brother David and his wife Deanna Olson, infant sisters Annette and Jeanette, and sister-in-law Becky Ekstedt.

  A Celebration of Life will be held at Karmel Covenant Church, 5799 County Road 6, Princeton, MN Tuesday, January 28th at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.  Lunch will follow the service at the church.  Memorials are suggested for the Karmel Covenant Church Building Fund.  Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on January 29th.
