Joseph P. Pogones

Joseph Paul Pogones, 77, of Oak Grove, MN, passed away on June 9, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, MN.

Joseph (Joe) was born in St. Paul, MN to Cecil and Kathryn Pogones on March 12th, 1948. After graduating from Austin Pacelli in 1965, Joe worked an assortment of jobs until 1971, when he met Georgine. Joe was united in marriage to Georgine Enger on June 30th, 1973, in Cambridge, MN. Together they had two children, and the family settled in Andover, MN to raise their family. 

Joe worked as a custodian and building supervisor for Anoka Hennepin District 11 for 30 years. After retiring in 2013, Joe enjoyed spending time watching Justin and Tommy race cars and participated in group motorcycle trips and rides with Our Saviors Motorcycle Ministry, Twin City Victory Riders and Northway Sports. Joe also enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, spending time with friends, his family and telling stories (even if some were not true).

Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Georgine Pogones; sons Justin (Cassie) Pogones, and Jake (Sam) Pogones; Grandchildren Gina (Charlie) Pogones, Tommy Pogones, Jasper Pogones, and Jade Pogones; Great-Granddaughter Cora Phillips; Siblings David (Loni) Pogones, Larry (Heidi) Pogones, John (Joy) Pogones, Carol (Bruce Kaufman) Collette, Shirley Rygg, Barb (Dave) Pearson, Mary Fussy and Karen (Scott) Ross; Brother-in-law Jay (Diannah) Enger; and many nieces and nephews. 

Joe is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Kathryn Pogones; Brother-in-law Randy Rygg.

Memorial Service will be held at 10:00am on Monday June 23, 2025 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in East Bethel, MN with Pastor Matt Polsdofer officiating. A private family burial will be held at a future date.
