John “Jack” Patrick Witte of Cambridge, MN passed away early Monday morning March 17, 2025 at home surrounded by his adoring family at the age of 77 after a graceful, brave and well fought battle with leukemia.
Dad was born to William and Eleanor (Roy) Witte in Anoka, MN on May 3, 1947. As the youngest of three Witte boys, he always shared wonderful memories of growing up in Anoka with his big brothers. He eventually moved to Stanchfield with his mother and stepfather Neil Bennett who lovingly took dad under his wing and raised him as his own after dad’s father William passed away when he was just two years old.
Dad met the love of his life, our mom Sherrie Lindeen while attending Braham high school and never looked back, staying together and modeling what both a husband and father should be until the very end. Mom and dad were married shortly after dad joined the US Navy in 1966 most notably serving in Guam and Panama. He was always proud of his military service and felt a special kinship with other military veterans throughout his life.
After leaving the Navy, mom and dad got on with the business of building a home and family in Dalbo, MN where they lived and raised their kids and grandchildren until 2017 when they decided it was time to simplify and move into town. Dad loved moving into Cambridge and meeting his new neighbors and participating in “city” life. He also appreciated being much closer to Dairy Queen, McDonalds and Applebee’s.
Dad spent his life in service. First in the military, next to his wife, family and friends and finally to his church and his faith. He was the grandpa every kid wants to have and loved them unconditionally. During his career at Federal Cartridge dad’s workday started early and ended late. Somehow, he always summoned the energy to throw some balls in the backyard with his children and eventually his grandchildren after he got home. He was our biggest fan.
After retirement dad finally got to spend some time and money on himself. Most notable were his motorcycles. He loved traveling the country with mom and his riding friends and his face would light up every time he described one of their latest adventures.
In the end dad said he had a good life, and we could not agree more. He will be dearly and fondly missed by all of us. Well done dad… very well done.
Jack is survived by his wife Sherrie, children Christopher (Anne) Witte of Blaine, Megan (Jason) Anderson of Ramsey, Ryan (Margot) Witte of Alexandria, Brianna (Matt) Leither of Robbinsdale, seven grandchildren Kinsey (Jacob) and Ben Witte, Nathan, Kyle and Aubrey Anderson, Emily and Lucy Witte, great granddaughter Izzy Witte, other relatives and friends.
Memorial Service 3PM, Friday, March 28, 2025 at Karmel Covenant Church. Visitation begins at 1PM at the church. Military honors provided by the Cambridge American Legion Honor Guard
