John Henry Newstrom of Isanti, MN, died on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Prairie Senior Cottages at the age of 65.
He was born in San Francisco, California on June 29, 1959. John was the eldest of 6 siblings. During his younger years, he lived in California with his parents and siblings followed by a short period in Nevada, then settling in Minnesota in 1969.
In 1990, he met Sheila Gair and they wed in 1991 in Las Vegas and together they had 2 children, Cody and Colton. He and Sheila separated around 1997 and eventually divorced.
John was known for being a hardworking man, he held many jobs in construction, manufacturing and even a short stint working in Death Valley. His main occupation was as a union carpenter and in his later years he owned and operated the County Line bar in Crown. John also built two homes for family and himself in Ramsey and St. Francis.
His interests included swimming when he was younger, playing pool, fishing and hanging out at his bar. He was also a fool for a pretty face.
John is preceded in death by his parents Alice and Duane Newstrom and biological father Robert Rowles.
John is survived by his sons Cody and Colton (Bettina) Newstrom, siblings Sonja (Tim) Knutson, Karen (David) Skaj, Eric (Paula) Newstrom, Hans Newstrom, Andy Newstrom and Casey (Cindy) Rowles.
The family will be hosting an informal Celebration of Life Gathering from 11am to 2pm on Saturday, April 19, 2025 to share stories, memories, and food at Riverwind Community Building (Riverwind 1), 2701 Northdale Boulevard, Coon Rapids, MN 55433.
A special thank you to the staff at Prairie Senior Cottages and the St. Croix Hospice staff during his final months and days for their loving and compassionate care of John.
