Janice Swanson Obituary

            Janice Margaret Swanson, 84, of Cedar passed away on Friday. May 28, 2021 at her home.

            She was born January 31, 1937 in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota to James and Margaret (Reichert) Larkin.  Janice grew up on the family farm in Springvale Township, attended grade school and high school in Cambridge.

            She was united in marriage to Harris Dahlberg.  They made their home in Cambridge and had two daughters Debra and Kathy.  In 1961 Janice went on to marry Don Schmidt in Princeton and they lived in rural Cambridge and had two children Tim and Tammy. 

            On November 3, 1984 Janice was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Gordon Swanson in Lyon, Michigan.  They lived in Michigan until Gordon retired in 1986 and then moved to Cedar, MN. 

            Janice raised four children working as a waitress at The Golden Nugget in Cambridge.  She would also manage the restaurant for many years.  She also worked at the Cambridge State Hospital as well as Anoka County Achieve, from which she retired.

            She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and raised many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Janice enjoyed shopping, was an excellent baker, she also liked to crochet and made blankets for her entire family.  She was a loyal, loving and compassionate person and was loved by all.

            She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gordon, daughter Debra Ward, grandson Joshua Dahlberg, sisters Evelyn Dudgeon and Josephine Zieske, brothers Jerome and Vernon “Pete” Larkin.

            Janice is survived by her children Kathy Dahlberg of Detroit Lakes, Tim Schmidt of Isanti, Tammy Bushey of Cedar, ten grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, sister Julia Coleman of Springvale, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
