Janice Larson Obituary

Janice Elaine Larson, 86, passed away on February 20, 2025, at Abbott-NW Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Born on August 14, 1938, in Braham, MN, to Frank and Mildred (Westin) Honzalek.

Jan grew up in the close-knit community of Braham, where she graduated from Braham High School with the class of 1956. She maintained lifelong friendships with her classmates being the point of contact with her class for celebrations and news.

After high school, Jan embarked on a career that saw her employed at IDS in Minneapolis and later at Control Data in Cambridge. It was during this time that she met and married the love of her life, Melvin Larson.

Jan's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when she established her own cleaning company called "The Final Touch", serving businesses and homes in the Cambridge area with dedication and care for over 40 years.

Jan's zest for life was evident in her many interests and activities. She and Mel were avid travelers, exploring the world from Europe to Japan, Scandinavia to the United States. Their adventures included memorable trips to England and multiple visits to Japan, where they forged a special bond with the Mori family and many others.

At home, Jan was an active member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and participated in the ladies group.

Her competitive spirit found an outlet in sports and clubs. Jan was a regular on the greens, golfing league at Grandy 9 golf course, and she skillfully slid stones at the Cambridge curling club. She was also a member of the whimsically group named "Do We Have to Ski Club".

Jan and Mel enjoyed attending twin conventions with Mel's twin, Maynard, and his wife, Helen.

Summers were a special time for Jan and her family spending many weekends at Springvale Campground with many fond memories. She enjoyed camping later in life with friends developing a love of catching big fish. Lake of the Woods, being a favorite among many beautiful camp settings.

Known as the "picture lady," Jan had a collection of over 75 photo albums, capturing the precious moments and memories that she held dear. She enjoyed tending to her flower garden, doing word finds and completing a jigsaw puzzle at home.

Jan loved her children Steve and Stephanie and enjoyed spending time doing everything from weekend casino trips to weekend road trips and holidays celebrations.

Jan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin Larson, her parents, and her sister, Darlene Carlson.

She is survived by her son, Steve Larson of Cambridge; daughter, Stephanie Larson (Ryan Smith) of St. Joseph; sister, Betty Eng of Cambridge, brother-in-law Wesley (Wanda) Larson of Cambridge; sisters-in-law Liz Larson of Cambridge and Beverly Larson of Farmington.
