Jane Margaret Chapman, 89, of Cambridge, MN passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Cambridge Medical Center.
She was born October 18, 1934 to Wendell and Beulah (Wills) Phillips in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up in Robbinsdale, graduating from Robbinsdale High. While in high school, she met a handsome Marine named Clarence Chapman. On October 7, 1952 they were married and moved into a little yellow house in Robbinsdale.
Jane and her first child moved to Camp Pendleton in California where Clarence was stationed. After he was discharged from the military, they moved to a small farm in Brook Park, MN. It was there that she raised five kids, milked cows, rode horses, grew gardens, canned, and baked bread. In 1964 they moved to Cambridge onto a larger farm. Jane went to work at a hardware store for a little while, then she worked at Control Data as a computer technician until her retirement.
Jane was very generous with her time and money. She volunteered at Shalom Thrift Shop until her health kept her from continuing. She served actively at Fish Lake Lutheran Church, she was member of WELCA, altar guild, made quilts and confirmation stoles, baked goods, organized meals for funerals or worked in the kitchen. She also contributed to many charities and sponsored three African children until they were grown.
Jane loved animals and has spent a fortune feeding wild birds and unintentionally a number of squirrels. She always had a dog or two, was an avid reader, loved doing puzzles and making quilts. Jane will be best remembered for the fabulous flowers she had grown all over the farm.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in January 2011, granddaughter Jasah, sister Edith Phillips, brothers Hugh and Jim Phillips, sister-in-law Joanne Phillips, and son-in-law Richard Fix. Jane is survived by children Claire Fix of Cambridge, Craig Chapman of North Branch, LeeAnn (Bruce) Hentges of Detroit Lakes, Douglas Chapman of North Branch, Scott (Michelle) Chapman of Anchorage, AK, nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
