James W. Poehler

James W. Poehler of Cambridge, died on March 29, 2023 unexpectedly at his home. He was 69 years old.

James was born in New Ulm, MN to Albert & Tunie Poehler on August 30,1953. He grew up the youngest of 12 in a bustling farming family. He lived and attended school in Nicollet, MN, graduating at the top of his high school class in 1971. He was always studious and graduated from the University of Mankato with a bachelor’s degree in both Psychology and French in 1982. Jim was an incredibly intelligent man and worked many kinds of jobs throughout his life until eventually retiring.

He met and married Margie Kiel in 1989 and had two loving daughters, Tasha and Megan. It was clear from the start that he was meant to be a father and gave his children so much love and wisdom over the years. Anyone who knew Jim knew he loved to talk philosophy and loved a good debate more than anything. When he started on a subject he spoke with passion and the tears often flowed, whether he was happy or sad. Nature and animals were always near and dear to his heart. He had many pets throughout his life and even took to feeding squirrels in 2022. He had a big heart and thoughtful advice that he would offer to anyone in need. The only thing stronger than his morals was his cooking, which he took great pride in. He often said he didn’t want to sound vain, but “his cooking was the best he’d ever tasted.” Those who knew Jim, knew he liked to make a statement and was often seen sporting anything and everything neon. He was unapologetically himself and had an endless cache of stories to tell. He will be dearly missed by his daughters and family.

He is survived by his daughters Megan of Cambridge, and Tasha of Minneapolis. Brothers Harold Poehler, wife (Betty) of Bloomington; Richard Poehler, wife (Marion) of Good Thunder. Sisters Elaine Peterson of Glencoe; Adeline Magras of Howard Lake.

Jim was preceded in death by parents Albert and Tunie Poehler, sisters Dorothy and Gertrude. Brothers George, Arnold, Albert, Marvin, & Robert Poehler.

Memorial Service 2PM, Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home.  Visitation one hour prior to the service.
