Gary Dean Magnuson, lovingly known as Gary to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, in Ham Lake, Minnesota, at the age of 72. Born on November 12, 1952, in Minneapolis, MN, Gary's life was a testament to his hard work, sense of humor, and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures.
Gary was a proud graduate of Anoka High School's class of 1971. Upon graduation, he began a lifelong career by joining his father at the family's auto body shop. His dedication and skill in auto body repair became well-known throughout the Soderville area, where he was not just a fixture in the business community but also a friend to many.
Throughout his life, Gary's passion for fast cars was evident to anyone who knew him. He found solace and excitement in the roar of engines, whether it was working on a classic muscle car, racing snowmobiles, or cruising on his motorcycle. His hands were rarely clean, always tinkering, fixing, and improving, a testament to his handy and analytical nature.
Gary's sense of humor was as reliable as his craftsmanship. His quick wit and infectious laugh were the highlights of many gatherings. He had a unique ability to find humor in the everyday, a quality that drew people to him and made every moment spent with him that much brighter.
He was preceded in death by his father Harold and mother Ruth (Larson) Magnuson.
He is survived by his sister Sharon and Michael, brother Darwin and Lisa, nieces Kendra and John, Jessica and Perry, Andrea and Dominick, nephew Bill and Jen; great nieces Amber, Letti and Scotland; great nephews Thomas and Tony; special cousin Randi Jo, along with countless friends who will hold Gary's memory close to their hearts.
Gary's life was one of connection, craftsmanship, and close friends. His absence will be felt deeply by all who were fortunate enough to be his friend.
As we bid farewell to Gary, we celebrate a life that was full to the brim with laughter, love, and the rumble of engines. His legacy will continue in the stories told, the cars he restored, and the lives he touched. Gary Dean Magnuson will be remembered not just for the work he did, but for the man he was—funny, handy, analytical, and deeply cherished. May he rest in peace, leaving behind the echoes of a life that was truly lived.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Maxx Bar & Grill in Ham Lake from 4 to 8 PM
