Fred M. Nahring

Fred M. "Freddy" Nahring, 86, of Crown, MN passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025 at Prairie Senior Cottages in Isanti.

He was born December 19, 1938 in Crown, Minnesota to Frederick and Pearl (Kresal) Nahring.  He grew up in Crown where he went to country school before attending school in St. Francis.  After high school Fred’s first job was working at Hau Fertilizer making $1.35 an hour. He also continued to work on his parents farm.  In September 1960 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in August 1962.

On July 6, 1963 he was united in marriage to Diane Stigsell at Faith Lutheran Church in Isanti. They lived a short time in Anoka before moving to the Crown area and in 1967 they bought a farm just north of Crown and raised their three children there.  In 1986 Fred and Diane built a new home on the farm place.

Fred worked for Boyer concrete doing curb and gutter.  Later on he went to work at Jesco where he became a foreman.  He also farmed for many years.  After retiring from Jesco at the age of 57, Fred continued farming and worked for the City of Dayton for several years.

He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church of Crown where he helped out as an usher.  Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, dancing and spending time with his family.  He also enjoyed snowmobiling and was famous for his “one-liners”.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Diane and one brother.

Fred is survived by children Shelly (Rick) Moss of Elk River, David Nahring of Ogilvie, Lisa (Mike) Schaaf of Blaine, nine grandchildren Anthony (Kaitlyn) Moss, Adam (Kaitlyn) Moss, Aleesha Moss, Samantha (Jeff) Whited, Cassandra (Zach) Heikes, Cheyanne (Logan) Hayes, Shania Nahring (Luke Cripe), Katelyn (Blake) Bode, and Dallas Schaaf, great grandchildren Haily VanderPlaats, Madison Whited, Ruby, Bob and Ronnie Heikes, Elsie Cripe and Opal Bode, brother Eldon (LaVonne) Nahring of Colorado, other relatives and friends.

Fred also had a smile for everyone he met. Heaven gained a hell of a fisherman today and Blue Lake gave a sigh of relief. 

Funeral Services 2:30PM, Monday, February 10, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church of Crown.  Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment in the church cemetery with Military Honors by the Zimmerman American Legion.
