Eva Carriere Obituary

Eva Johanna Carriere, 93, of Sauk Rapids, formerly of Foley and Cambridge passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids.

She was born August 17, 1927 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to Louis and Anna (Norberg) Anderson.  Eva grew up in Middle River, Minnesota where she attended grade school and graduated high school.

Eva married Robert Carriere on June 15, 1947, in Middle River, Minnesota. One son and four daughters were born to them.  In 1955, the family moved to Foley and raised their children. They were members of Maywood Covenant Church in Foley.  After retirement, Robert and Eva moved to Cambridge where they attended North Isanti Baptist Church before becoming members at Karmel Covenant Church.  Eva and Robert lived at GracePointe Crossing, formerly River Hills, for a number of years.  Bob and Eva enjoyed traveling the United States and made several trips within the contiguous United States including California, Wyoming, South Carolina, Florida, Texas, Arizona and Maine. They enjoyed being able to visit children and grandchildren.  On some of these travels they had the opportunity to reconnect with dear friends. Other adventures took them to Sweden to meet relatives and tour the fjords in Norway and to Australia visiting their daughter, Jan’s family, a cruise in Alaska and even to Hawaii to attend their grandson’s wedding.  Many of these trips were done with their camper, which was not only enjoyed by them, but by every grandchild. Some were lucky enough to travel with them, spend the night or play a game of Skip-bo in their traveling home.  Eva loved the outdoors and enjoyed Wild River State Park in Minnesota, sharing in hosting duties with Bob for a couple of summers.

Eva, known as “Nana” to so many, was always at home in the kitchen no matter the location.  Her specialties included her famous buttery caramels and her homemade cinnamon rolls. She had many talents, but was humble in accepting praise or compliments. A serving spirit embodied who she was in every aspect of her life. Her faith remained strong even throughout the times of loss and great pain that no parent should ever have to suffer. Her prayers remained steadfast and sincere throughout her life and into her very last days.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert in September 2015, son Lowell Carriere, daughter Barb Holmquist, granddaughter Gina Holmquist, sisters Alice Blomquist, Rachel Johnson, Gladys Hoglund and Judy Bradley, and brothers Howard and Norman Anderson.

Survivors include her children Jan (Steve) Skadsberg of Woodbury, Beth (Terry) Young of Lincolnville, ME, Nancy (Willy) Watsabaugh of Jackson, WY; daughter-in-law Marilyn Carriere of Rochester, MN, son-in-law John Holmquist of Buffalo, 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and sisters Lois (Duane) Munson of Roseville and Carol (Chuck) DeVries of Minneapolis.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior.  Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
