Darlene Joan Fixell, 88, of Cambridge, MN passed away on Wednesday August 21, 2024 at her home. She was born October 5,1935 in Fish Lake Township, MN to Richard and Signe (Nelson) Pearson.
Darlene’s early years were spent in East Cambridge, where she attended grade school at the Moody Country School. She went on to graduate from Cambridge High School in 1953. After high school, she worked for a time at Midwest Federal in Minneapolis.
On August 20, 1955, Darlene married her beloved husband, Gary Fixell at the Cambridge Lutheran Church. The couple settled into the “Becklin” home on Dellwood in Cambridge. Darlene started her career of finance bookkeeping in the Isanti County Auditor’s office.
In 1960, Darlene, Gary and their infant son Dan moved to the Fixell family farm to help care for, Ethel, Gary’s mother. After her mother-in-law’s passing, they made the farm their home and welcomed their second son, Paul. In the early 70’s, Darlene moved on and started her own business. Serving a multitude of small businesses throughout the Cambridge community providing bookkeeping and tax preparation services.
An active member of the Cambridge Lutheran Church as well as a past member of North Isanti Baptist Church, Darlene’s faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She participated in various music and children’s ministries, sharing her talents and love for the Lord through song and piano. Her passion for gospel music as the pianist for the “Abrahamson Sisters Trio” touched countless multitudes and brought her joy and to many others.
Beyond her devotion to her faith, Darlene’s other passions centered around family and community. Her graciousness as a host and her knack for organizing gatherings, whether at the homeplace farm, or church functions gave her great pleasure. Darlene also cherished traveling and camping as a family, and later in life, with Gary and her alone.
Darlene's servant heart was evident to all who were fortunate enough to cross her path. She was always ready to lend a hand or offer a kind word, embodying the very essence of a loving, kind, and faith-filled life.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gary Fixell; her sister Shirley Epps, her brother Dixon Pearson, and her nephews Dale Epps and Rick Nelson.
She is survived by her sons, Dan (Boni) Fixell of Elk River and Paul (Robyn) Fixell of Cambridge; her grandchildren, Ryan (Stefcia) Fixell of Florida, Stephanie (Martin) Norder of St. Paul, Jacob Fixell of Minneapolis, and Deanna Fixell of Florida; great-grandchildren, James and Charlie Norder, Alexander and Paulina Fixell, along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services 11AM, Friday, August 30, 2024 at Cambridge Lutheran Church.
Visitation 5-7PM, Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment in the church cemetery.
