Daniel D. Mikush

Daniel D. Mikush, age 57, of Isanti, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024.

Daniel was born on November 18, 1966 to Linda Lou Canfield in Minneapolis, MN.

When Danny was two years old, he developed an ear infection that affected his hearing, resulting in his deafness.  In 1968, Danny’s mother married James Mikush.  Danny was un-officially adopted by James and was given his new last name. 

Daniel attended Como Park School for the deaf until 7th grade and then transferred to Faribault School of the deaf, graduating in 1986.  Shortly after graduation, Danny started working at Rise Manufacturing in the Twin Cities and living independently in several group homes.  In 1994, he moved back to Isanti to live with his mother, continuing his work with Rise Manufacturing in the northern suburbs.  After several years with Rise, he decided to do something different, bouncing between different jobs and group homes.  Danny finally settled down at Powerhouse group homes in Hinckley, MN.  He worked various jobs at Phase, such as woodworking, janitorial services at the casino and piece work.  Danny was able to fully retire in 2020.  He was very happy.

Due to his deteriorating health, he moved to Better Avenues Home in Mora, MN and was lovingly cared for until his death.

Daniel loved watching the Vikings play football, traveling, fishing, watching squirrels and other handiwork.  Ron even taught him how to drive the lawn tractor, one of Daniel’s ls, crafts, painting and Latch Hook.  His step-father Ron included him on construction projects favorite past-times.

Danny was preceded in death by his dad James Mikush and grandfather Ray Canfield and step-grandfather Arvin Dahl.

He is survived by his mother Linda Mikush, step-father Ron Selix, grandmother Marvel Dahl; sisters Valerie (Karl) Morton, Kimberly Mikush (Greg Smothers), Jamie Mikush; niece Abigail Morton, nephews Austin Mikush and Max Smothers; step-siblings Darcy Hoppe and Curt Selix.

Danny is also survived by his extended family and friends at Powerhouse, Better Avenues Inc and Phase.

Memorial service 2 PM Friday February 23, 2024 at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home

Friends may gather 1 hour prior to service at the funeral home on Friday

Private interment at Strike Cemetery in Isanti.
