Carol Johnson Obituary

Carol Jean Johnson, 80 years old, of Cambridge, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024, at St. Therese at St. Odilia in Shoreview, MN, of chronic, liver disease.

Carol was born in Superior, Wisconsin to Sheldon and Pearl Swenson on October 12, 1943. She attended country school in Isanti, Minnesota, and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1961.

Carol married Carrol Johnson (yes, they are Carrol and Carol) on June 27, 1964. The “Carrol’s” were going to celebrate their 60th Anniversary in June this year. They were married at South Isanti Baptist Church in Isanti, Minnesota, surrounded by friends and family from the area.

Carrol and Carol were entrepreneurs. They moved their family out to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1976, to start a manufacturing business, RTD Company. Once RTD was stable, they moved the family and the business back to Cambridge per Carol’s adamant instructions. They owned (a very successful) RTD Company for 25+ years. Both, Carrol and Carol have been active members of the Cambridge community ever since.

Carol loved to fish, bowl, golf, shop, play Cribbage, and spend time with her friends and family. Carol loved to laugh. She loved Ole and Lena jokes, and loved making everyone around her laugh until they cried by sharing them. Carol rarely said “no” to adventures. She rode ATV in the Big Horns, fished the Great Lakes, ziplined in Costa Rica, and even went skydiving once. Her true magic was in the kitchen, however. Nobody cooked or baked like Carol. She spent a lifetime honing her craft. She will always be known for how easily she could “whip something up” if someone was sad, mad, happy, stressed, celebrating, or just simply getting together.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Sheldon and Pearl Swenson, and her brothers, Ted Swenson and Jim Swenson.

Carol is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Carrol Johnson, her children, Shirley Johnson, Tom (Bonnie Hanson) Johnson and Debbie (Kevin) Tacheny, and her grandchildren, Christina Zahler, Rachel Zahler, Stephanie Zahler, Travis Johnson, Lance Johnson, Garret McGraw-Hanson, Amber Tacheny, Adriana Tacheny, and Liam Tacheny. She is also survived by many friends who loved her. We are all heartbroken and will miss her dearly.
