Bernice Schuchard Obituary

Bernice Carroll Schuchard, 94, of Cambridge, Minnesota passed away on September 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.  She is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Bernice was born on December 19, 1930 on a farm in Becker, Minnesota to Arvid and Esther Anderson.  She attended grade school in a one-room country school (class of 2).  She graduated from Becker High School in 1948 (class of 8).  She majored in Education at St. Cloud State University for 2 years, then transferred to Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis for another 2 years, graduating in 1952.  She attended one summer session in Norman, Oklahoma at Wycliffe Bible Translators and then spent 3 years of nurses training at Mounds Park and Midway Hospitals in St. Paul, Minnesota, graduating in 1956.  She continued to work at Midway Hospital after becoming an RN then moved to Crystal, MN and worked at North Memorial Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1998.  She married Don Schuchard in 1956 and they had 3 children – Mark, Joanne and Sandra.  Don died in 1993.

Bernice enjoyed memorizing scriptures and poetry, taking long walks listening to the cardinals, embroidering and reading. She also loved dogs, especially her dachshund, Tammy, whom she never forgot, even 50 years later.  She taught children’s Sunday School most of her life, enjoying 2nd graders the best.  She was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Minneapolis, until she moved to Cambridge where she joined First Baptist Church.  She recently became a member of Springvale Baptist Church.

She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with all her heart.  She also had friendships that dated back over 70 years, and while staying in touch became difficult in recent years, due to health reasons, she never forgot these very important people in her life and talked of them often.

Bernice was preceded in death by her beloved son, Mark in 2010; sisters Arvilla, Hazelle, Genevieve, Marion and Florence; son-in-law Dennis Frederick and niece Janice Peterson (at age 4).

She is survived by daughters Joanne (Jim) Dargay and Sandra (Steve) Hanson, both of Cambridge; daughter-in-law Sheila Schuchard; 5 grandchildren Paul (Crystal) Schuchard, Sarah Schuchard, James (Sierra) Schuchard, Samuel (Nicolette) Frederick and Andrew Frederick; 5 great grandchildren Declan, Liam, Elizabeth and Ewen Schuchard and Emmerson Frederick and one more on the way; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Private Interment in the Snake River Church Cemetery in Becker, MN.

Although we are going to miss her terribly, we are comforted in the knowledge that her pain is gone, her sight restored and she is at peace in the arms of Jesus.
