Bernard Ralph Halton, 92, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Hennepin County Medical Center.
He was born February 4, 1930 in Minneapolis, MN to James and Marie (Gifford) Halton. Bernard grew up in Minneapolis and graduated high school. In April 1951 he enlisted the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in January 1954.
On October 22, 1955 he was united in marriage to Mary Renelt at Church of The Sacred Heart in Robbinsdale. They raised four children.
Bernard worked as a carpenter for Howard Lumber and later Methodist Hospital, which he retired from in the mid 1980’s. He played accordion and was active in several polka bands over the years. He purchased The Red Barn near Braham and transformed it into The Trackside Inn which he ran for a few years.
He enjoyed camping with his family, playing football with the kids. He was a member of the American Legion, the carpenter’s union and musician’s union. Bernard and Mary spent many winters in Apache Junction, AZ.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Mary in November 2021, and grandson Justin Wright.
Bernard is survived by his children Timothy (Linda) Halton, David (Chandra) Halton, Nancy (Christopher) Boben and Scott Halton; grandchildren Andy Halton, Rachel (Nathan) Guilfoyle, Dawn Wright, Samuel Halton and Amanda Halton; great grandchildren Alicia Bell, Ava and Emma Wright, Ryan and Owen Guilfoyle; other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM, Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
