Barbara Jean Hysing, 76, of Dalbo passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at The Glenn Minnetonka Senior Living.
Born December 12, 1947 in Princeton, Minnesota to Warren and Leone (Palmquist) Erickson, Barbara graduated from Cambridge High School in 1965, then attended Augsburg and the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in speech therapy. She married Bruce Hysing in Taylors Falls on December 31, 1976. They built a home in Dalbo in 1978 where they raised two daughters.
Barbara was a full-time homemaker, and worked part-time in real estate. She went back to school to earn a Master’s degree in library science from St. Cloud State University, then worked at Pine Technical and Community College, helping their library transition from paper to electronic systems.
She enjoyed reading, volunteering with her daughters’ school and Girl Scout troop, cheering for the Timberwolves, and exploring craft fairs, auctions, and antique stores for treasures and gifts.
Barb loved fresh local produce and used it in her baking and canning. When loved ones came to visit, her kitchen always smelled of freshly baked treats. At summer’s end, she was often found canning tomatoes and dill pickles, her specialties.
She valued spending quality time with extended family, which included gatherings at Spec Lake and at resorts in northern Minnesota. Relatives relied upon her sharp memory to fill in details of family history and events. She adored children and was full of pride and love for her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by husband Bruce Hysing; daughters Melissa Hysing of Minneapolis; Sonya (David) Pickett of Victoria; three grandchildren Kyle, Zachary and Monica Pickett; siblings Patricia (George) Brelig of Ft. Collins, Colorado; David (Dianna) Erickson of Eden Prairie; Judy (Lowell) Carpenter of Eagan; Robert (Gwen) Erickson of Hermantown; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Warren Erickson and Leone (Palmquist) Erickson of Cambridge, MN and sisters Beverly Erickson and Jane Moskowitz.
Memorials are preferred to Isanti County Historical Society.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Cambridge Lutheran Church, with reception immediately following. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place in the church cemetery at a later date.
