Arnold Molby Obituary

Arnold Bernhardt Molby was born on January 19, 1926 at 8:00 am at home in Sandstone, Minnesota to Aage M. and Marie K. (Johansen) Molby.  He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Askov and attended grade school and high school in Sandstone, graduating on June 2, 1944. 

            Arnold was drafted into the Army on June 28, 1944 and served in the South Pacific, then Leyete Island and finally in Manila and was discharged on May 7, 1946 as a PFC.  He worked as a coal passer, fireman and oiler in the boiler and engine room from 1948 to 1950 on the carrier Clarence B. Randal on the Great Lakes. He then worked as a power plant engineer at the Twin City Arsenal from December 1952 to March 1953.  In March 1954, he started working at the brewery, in the boiler room with a Class A Chief Engineer license, until April 1988.

            He married Esther Velau on February 7, 1953 in Pine City and they lived in the Twin Cities until 1988.  They later moved to Florida where they lived until 2014, at which time they returned to Minnesota. 

            Arnold passed away on March 7, 2015 at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 16 days.

A joint Memorial Service for Esther and Arnold will be held at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 11 am.  Interment at Long Lake Community Cemetery will follow the service.  A reception/gathering will take place at Sunrise on Englund Shores in Isanti after the interment.
