Allen E Kastendick

Allen E. Kastendick of Elk River died on Tuesday May 27, 2025 at Cura of Monticello at the age of 90.

Allen was born February 7, 1935 to Julius and Ida Kastendick in rural Elk River, MN.  Allen and his 7 sisters lived on a dairy farm.  He attended school through the eighth grade at St. John Lutheran in Nowthen, MN.   Allen didn’t continue on to high school, but instead committed to a lifetime of farming.

On June 18th, 1967, Allen married Joan F Kreger of Elk River at St. John Lutheran in Nowthen, MN.  The couple settled on the family farm where they lived until 2020 when they moved to Cura of Monticello.

In his early years, Allen was fond of roller skating at Twin Lakes Roller Rink.  He also sang in the choir at St. John Lutheran.

Allen and Joan did not have children of their own, but they loved their family, friends and neighbors.  All were welcome to drop by the farm at any time, where they were sure to get a taste of Allen’s sense of humor and good nature.  He had a playful nature and loved to give people “a hard time.”   Over the years many friends got the taste of the farm life through their experiences with Allen.

After moving to Cura of Monticello, Allen continued his good-natured banter with staff and residents, but was most loved for his singing.  He would roll up and down the halls singing gospel hymns or making up songs of his own, sure to put a smile on the faces of those he encountered.

Allen is survived by his wife, Joan F. Kastendick and many nieces and nephews.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents Julius and Ida Kastendick, sisters Gertrude ( Philmore) Herrboldt, Angeline (Howard) Thompson, Delrose (Leo) Froelich, Verona (Art) Hipsag, Madalyn (Anthony) Moos, Leona (Peter) Holzem and Donna (Don) Johnson.

Allen’s family expresses their sincere thanks for the care provided by the staff at Cura of Monticello, and wonderful care and support he received in the final months of his life from the staff of Moments Hospice.

A small private gathering will be held for the immediate family members, with interment to be held at a future, undetermined date.  As Allen lived his life very simply, so to was his desire to pass from his earthly plane simply and quietly
