Alice Migliazza Obituary

Alice Holmquist Migliazza, aged 96, residing in Plano, Texas passed away on 20 August 2024. She was born on 25 September 1927 in Clarissa, Minnesota to Herman and Alvina Holmquist, the second of their four daughters.

As a child she memorized Bible verses so that she could attend Camp Jim Bible Camp for free each summer. She heard the gospel clearly presented at Camp Jim and became a born-again believer there. Her life verse was Psalms 16:11: You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

In 1944, she graduated from Clarissa High School at the age of 16 and used her life verse in her salutatorian speech. In the fall, she enrolled at Northwestern Bible Institute (now known as Northwestern College), graduating in 1947 with a three-year diploma in Missions, and then continued nurse’s training at the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, where she graduated in 1950. She enjoyed music, playing the trombone in her high school band and touring with a quartet during her days at Northwestern.

She had been interested in going to China as a missionary but by the winter of 1949 China had closed its doors to all missionaries, so in 1952 she was accepted by Baptist Mid-Missions to serve among the Indians of Brazil. She arrived in Brazil in 1953 and there met and married Ernest Migliazza in 1957, an Italian who was with another mission. For many years they served amongst a Yanomami people group north of Boa Vista, Roraima near the Venezuelan border, in both evangelism and Bible translation. Due to health reasons, in 1971 they returned permanently to live in the States. Alice later moved with the four children to Dallas near her sister’s family (Elaine & Gene Getz), who helped them relocate, purchase a house, and find work. In the early 1980s after the youngest child had graduated from high school, Alice moved back to Minnesota to help take care of her mother. She was blessed with a wonderful job managing the office of a professor of surgery (Dr Goodale) at the University of Minnesota where she stayed until retiring in 2000 at the age of 73. She then moved back to Dallas to live closer to several of her children.

Alice was an avid reader of not only the Bible, but of history, biographies, current events, and Christian literature. She always stayed current in her medical knowledge. She was a faithful participant in missionary activities and prayer groups. Alice was a faithful wife, loving mother, and a trusted prayer warrior for any and all in need of prayer.

She is preceded in death by two sisters, Adela Kinney and Ellen Greenberg. She is survived by her four grateful children, Brian (Shirley) Migliazza, Brenda Migliazza, Mark Migliazza, and Miriam (Bruce) Migliazza Webb; grandchildren Andrew (Lea) Migliazza, Matthew Migliazza, Joshua (Sara) Migliazza, Caroline Migliazza, Jackson Durham; her sister Elaine (Gene) Getz, and other great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
