Shirley Dorayne McFarlane, 89, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019 at GracePointe Crossing.
She was born November 4, 1929 at home in Pine City, Minnesota the fifth of seven born to Clinton and Salin (Anderson) Whiting. Shirley grew up in Pine City where she attended country school. The family moved to a farm near Alexandria and her father passed away two months later. Shirley attended Alexandria High School and worked after school hours at Woolworths. After graduating, she worked in accounting at Herberger’s. Shirley attended First Baptist Church in Alexandria.
On May 16, 1948 she was united in marriage to Clayton McFarlane at Svea Lutheran Church in Alexandria. They moved to Coon Rapids and had four children. While in Coon Rapids they attended the First Baptist Church. In 1966 the family moved to Cambridge and they joined First Baptist Church. After her youngest child was in school, Shirley began working at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in the accounting department and retired after 21 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clayton in April 2006, granddaughters Kayla Anderson and Keri Berglund, brothers Mickey Whiting and Lee Whiting, sisters Arlene Anderson and Donna Mae Bilke, and daughter-in-law Paulette McFarlane.
Shirley is survived by her children Judy (Alan) Berglund of Cambridge, Jerry (Gloria) McFarlane of Goodyear, AZ, Randy (Cheryl) McFarlane of Moundsview, Nancy (Paul) Dietz of Nowthen, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, brother Wayne Whiting of Alexandria, sister Lucille Asmund of Cambridge, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Cambridge. Interment will be in Cambridge Union Cemetery.
