Alf Kenneth Stratte Jr., 91, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at Walker Methodist Levande Care Center.
He was born December 23, 1927 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Alf and Margret (Schwirtz) Stratte. Alf grew up in Pine City. He was baptized and confirmed at the Episcopal Church and graduated from Pine City High School in 1945. He attended Carleton College and went on to the University of Minnesota, earning a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. Alf made his home in Minneapolis and began working as a pharmacist in a local drug store.
On June 19, 1954 he was united in marriage to Gwyneatha Allen in Minneapolis. To this union, one daughter Ann was born on September 15, 1955. In 1957 the family moved to Cambridge and started Stratte Drug on Main street. They owned and operated the drug store for many years along with Stratte Hallmark Shop. After the drug store closed, Alf worked for many years at Erickson’s More-4 as a pharmacist until he retired.
Gwyn passed away December 8, 1986. Alf spent all of his retirement years in Cambridge and more recently sold his home and moved to Walker Methodist Levande Care Center.
He was a longtime active member of Cambridge Lutheran Church where he was active in Men’s Group, helping with the annual Lutefisk Dinner and volunteering in many ways at church. He was a member of the Cambridge Lion’s Club, the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Board, Phi Delta Chi Fraternity and the local Business Men’s Association. Alf enjoyed working, going on walks and talking part in the Peace Walk group in Cambridge. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a joke to tell. Alf also loved a good deal, especially if it was free.
He is survived by his daughter Ann Stratte and husband William Corbin of Annapolis, MD, brother Dr. Jon (Jan) Stratte of Stillwater, sister Margery Stratte-Swanson of Pine City, as well as nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM, Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Cambridge Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Cambridge American Legion Post #290.
